MommyCon and a GIVEAWAY!
Being a parenting hippie and birth nerd, I had heard about MommyCon but wasn't really sure what the point was. What could they possibly have there that I didn't already know?? By chance I happened across a discount code for the one in Newport Beach, thanks to The Badass Breastfeeder, and since the tickets were pretty cheap I asked Em if she'd like to go with me. I figured if nothing else it would be a great opportunity to network and/or promote my HypnoBirthing classes. She of course was more than happy to, especially since I could help with babywearing duty! BK was welcome to come, but I knew I'd be too distracted with him running around like the maniac he is so it was better that we just went with the twins.
Em really wanted to catch the cloth diapering presentation, so we got there when it opened. We got our lanyards and gift bags (wooo free stuff!) and sat in the preso. The good people from Cotton Babies were discussing all the ins and outs of cloth diapering, from the different kinds available to how much disposables really impact the environment. They even started throwing free diapers out into the crowd! I found it very interesting, and have since been tempted to switch to cloth but haven't taken the plunge. Maybe with the next baby. The presentation immediately following was by one of my favorites, Jessica from The Leaky Boob, so we stayed for that as well and soaked up all her glorious wisdom. She is one inspiring lady!

Once that finished we moseyed through the vendor tent to see all the fun products. There was a fantastic babywearing station sponsored by Beco (we love our Beco Geminis!!!) and Ergobaby where you could try all sorts of different carriers, which is great since they are often spendy! The Sloomb cloth diaper resource area had a lot of fun products to look at, and some very helpful staff. There were also a slew of various brand booths with some great products, and of course the official MommyCon store. Em spent most of our time over at the cloth diapers asking lots of questions and getting some great insight!

After that it was time for the boys to eat, and there was no better place to do that than the Pump Station and Nursery room!
Once the boys were fed we needed to nourish ourselves as well, so we had a bite to eat before going back in for another speech. This time it was #ISupportYou, a movement meant to squelch all the horrible "mommy wars" surrounding feeding choices - the ugly formula vs. breast debate. It was very interesting, and I was reminded of my commitment to only support - not judge - other's choices. One of our favorites quotes from the day was from Hector of Project Breastfeeding, disseminating gender stereotypes when it comes to parenting - "There's no mom role, there's no dad role, there's just a parent role." So true Hector!
