Pie Not?! Classic Apple
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, this easy Apple Pie recipe is the perfect dessert to bring to your family gathering.
All you need is:
1 package refrigerated pie crust (come in two)
6 cups sliced and peeled apples of your choice (about 6 medium)
1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
2 tsp. lemon juice
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp ground cloves
1 tbsp. whipping cream (optional)
Sprinkle of brown sugar (optional)
Let crusts stand for 15 minutes while you preheat oven to 350 degrees. Use one crust to line 9-in pie pan and set the other one aside.
Peel and cut apples and place in a bowl.
Next up, get your fresh lemon juice and other spices ready to mix.
Take your bowl of apples and combine sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, cinnamon, vanilla, salt, nutmeg and cloves in a large bowl.
Once you have mixed it all together, simply dump it into the bottom crust.
Place second crust over apples and crimp at the edges to seal. Cut four slits into the top of the crust and brush with cream, OR instead, sprinkle with brown sugar like I did.
Bake 40 minutes or until crust is golden brown. As your house fills with the smell of delicious cinnamon-y appley goodness you know it is ready to come out. Once out of the oven, let cool on wire rack.
