Up, Up and Away... BK Turns ONE!

Hot Air Balloon Birthday Party

I knew I wanted to keep BK's 1st birthday low key since he wouldn't remember it and there aren't many kids in our "group" yet, so we just had a small get together at my house. That didn't mean I wasn't going to theme it up (with Em's expert assistance of course)! I browsed good 'ole Pinterest and felt like most themes were a little too cheesy... I just wanted something cute, gender neutral, with a slightly vintage flair. When I came across a super cute vintage Hot Air Balloon party I knew that was it!

We kept the decor simple - some homemade hot air balloons c/o Em's craftiness, streamers, and fresh flowers. I designed the invitation and made some other decor to go along with it - banner, food signs, a welcome sign on the front door, and little bundt cake toppers.

I made life easy on myself by ordering sandwiches from one of my favorites, Corner Bakery. My wonderful MIL brought her famous and delicious Cous Cous Salad and a fruit salad to round things out.

Of course no Thriving Party is complete without some fresh lemonade and water served up in darling mini milk bottles, complete with straws and ribbon in our color scheme!

I had planned to order some cute hot air balloon cookies for the party, but that plan fizzled out so I did the next best thing - Nothing Bundt Cakes! Much better than cupcakes in my humble opinion...

After everyone filled their bellies, it was time for BK to fill his... with his first sugar - CAKE!

If that's not a happy cake face, I don't know what is.
He carefully considered it at first, like he does with most things (he is my son after all) and picked at it a little. I was slightly disappointed he didn't just dive right in, but he definitely enjoyed it and didn't even cry when we sang to him!

Happy birthday my sweet little angel, thanks for the best year of my life!! Special thanks goes out to my Thriving Wife Em, who was a huge help with setup even though she was very pregnant! My mom and mother-in-law were amazing as well, working behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly and tidying up as needed. Of course I am so grateful to everyone who came from near and far to celebrate my (not so) little baby!!
