As a I grow older I notice that my group of friends has become more like my family. Friends from elementary school, high school and college will always be in my life and I know I can count on them for anything. Now that I no longer live in the Bay Area where nearly all of my blood relatives live, I am even more thankful to have moved to Orange County near all of my TH's college BF's. Those guys are like my brothers and have seen me through it all (literally, college was crazy). Not to mention I moved 15 minutes away from the lovely Nic who is TOTALLY like blood. It's so refreshing to have a strong "framily" (new combo word friends + family) that I can count on since I don't have my mom or grandparents to call in a pinch.
Just recently I had a health incident and was so thankful to be surrounded by my amazing framily members. Since my TH was at work, I was scared to death. But just as suddenly as I was overtaken with fear, a wave of calm rushed over me as I soon had five TH's and two Thriving Momma's (Nic & Mrs. Peli, thank you!) tending to my every need. The love and dedication I had once felt for all of these friends was totally and utterly confirmed, they were much more than just friends; they were my framily. I mean, I knew we were close but was so grateful to have people around me that didn't share my genetics but would do anything for me.
Family doesn't just have to be who you are born to and raised with. What makes family is those people who are there for you no matter what. The ones with whom you share your life, make memories and know you can call on for help. Just when I thought it couldn't get better with my real fam, it does. I also have an amazing "framily" and couldn't be more happy about it.
